HUSSEY/ MESSENGER SCHOLARSHIPS
Taupo students are set to benefit thanks to three new scholarships for students studying degrees in conservation or tourism.
The Craters of the Moon Trust in conjunction with the Department of Conservation has announced the scholarships for pupils living in the Lake Taupo Catchment area.
They will be called the Hussey Messenger Scholarship.
Each scholarship will be worth $3000 a year for three years, paid in arrears. First payment after the first semester on satisfactory results. -- renewable on production of satisfactory exam results.
Scholarship recipients will also be offered work, subject to positions being available, both at the Craters of the Moon thermal area site and Huka Falls.
Recipients will be expected to present to trustees, volunteers and staff at an end of year function and will agree to media publicity.
The scholarships are primarily intended for students from either Taupo Nui a Tia College, Tauhara College and Tongariro High School but any student from the Taupo catchment is eligible.
Those interested in applying can write a letter explaining why they believe they should be considered and send it to the Manager of the Craters of the Moon Trust at PO Box 18, Taupo or email cratershuka@xtra.co.nz
Applications need to be in by 8th February 2012
The creation of the scholarship is seen as a continuing recognition by the trust and its volunteers of the need to put back into the Taupo community the benefits that have arisen over the last approximately 21 years from the trust’s security operations - initially at the Craters of the Moon and more recently also at the Huka Falls sites.
THREE scholarships worth $9000 each are being made available to students living in the Lake Taupo catchment area to study conservation or tourism.
